Baby snoring is a very odd thing for most parents to hear. When we think of this problem we naturally assume someone that is older and that does this, but not a baby. It is true that it isn't that common really, but it isn't necessarily a problem. I use the word necessarily because as long as you are only hearing what is the result of snoring than it should be fine. Another issue that you could be mistaking it for is sleep apnea, which is obviously a much more concerning problem and would require the expertise of a doctor. If it is really baby snoring than this isn't something that you should get overly worried about and it is something that can be stopped.
The reason that people and babies both snore is due to the tissue in the throat area vibrating as breathing occurs. Obviously breathing isn't shut off, so it is something that needs to be dealt with. When the baby is awake and breathing, they're definitely not experiencing vibrating tissue in the throat to the point that the tissue makes noises. It only happens when the child is asleep. The main issue here is that a baby is generally pretty compacted when it is small. The throat area because very limited in space while sleeping and this causes a lot more pressure with the breathing.

That pretty much sums up the issue of baby snoring. It is something that they should grow out of as the body expands in size. The more the pressure is taken off the throat area, the less likely they'll be able to produce these sound as they sleep.
